Blue Birthstones
Jun 21st
Blue birthstones consist of Blue Topaz, Sapphire, and Aquamarine. September is a deep, striking blue which is sapphire. December’s birthstone is more a turquoise blue. March’s birthstone is aquamarine or the bloodstone. This is a pale blue stone. An alternate to march’s stone is the bloodstone which is more green.
If you can picture the waters from the Mediterranean Sea this is the color of blue you will find in March’s birthstone. “Aqua” means water, so this pale blue birthstone will indeed make you think of water.
Sapphire with its brilliant, deep blue can help you reflect on a clear blue sky. This particular stone was a favorite among priests and kings. They consider these sapphires stones to reflect wisdom and purity. In ancient days sapphires were considered to protect against poison and envy.
Blue topaz is December’s birthstone. This is actually derived from the word “tapas” which means fire. This particular stone is believed in ancient times to have cooling abilities. It could calm boiling waters as well as calming hot tempers. There are three shades of blue topaz and the deepest blue of them is called the London blue which is sometimes used as a substitute to sapphire.
Green Birthstones to Celebrate May, August and More
May 3rd
The beautiful deep greens of emerald and peridot are perfect for celebrating May and August birthdays, respectively. Perfect for May, deep green emerald reminds us of rolling fertile fields just after spring has sprung. Just right for August, the yellow green of peridot flatters in the sunny heat of summer months.
These green birthstones make stunning additions to one’s own jewelry collection or appropriate gifts for others when set in a variety of pieces. It is no wonder that rings, bracelets and necklaces set with green birthstones are likely to cause the green of envy in those born in other birth months. For example, the deep green of emerald stands out against a warm gold setting, and the light green of peridot has a yellow tone also complemented by gold.
Treat yourself to a bit of green, present a birthday girl with an emerald or peridot green birthstone, or cure May/August birth envy and create your own special occasion by presenting one of these deep green or light green gems to a special person regardless of her birth month.
