Jadeite is considered the rarest of all gemstones. The color of the stone can range from white to a deep green. The more intense the green the more the stone will cost. Jadeite is found deep within Guatemala. Only local Guatemalans are exploiting the gemstone. This makes it a rare stone to have.
Red diamonds are also among the rarest gemstones. The gemstone is purplish in color and is not a pure red. There have been only a few of these gemstones found. The few diamonds that were found, were located in Brazil. A mine in Australia also produces a small amount of the diamonds.
With only three in know existence, the serendibite makes the list of rare gemstones. This gemstone is black in color. This stone hails from Sri Lanka. The stone will set you back $14,300 per carat.
While garnets are easy to find, a blue garnet tops the list of rare gemstones. The blue garnet can be found, in limited supply, in Madagascar. The stone changes from blue-green to purple in certain light.
Painite finishes the list of rare gemstones. These gemstones can be found in Myanmar. The stone is reddish brown in appearance. There are only a few hundred of these gemstones in existence.
